THE SCARABAIC
RISING OF CHRIST

L. CARUANA
This painting was begun during the first Visions in the MischTechnik Seminar in 2008. As a demonstration panel, it has the same dimensions (12" x 18") and follows the same steps as taught during the course. During the 2009 seminar, I managed to advance it quite a bit, and finished it upon my return from Italy.
The video documents the painting's development, revealing the alternating stages of white egg tempera and coloured glazes which go into the making of a painting in the MischTechnik.

THE FACE OF KALI

L. CARUANA
This painting follows a variation of the MischTechnik, starting from a detailed imprimatura (underpainting) in burnt umber and then gradually building up the image in alternating layers. The whites use a medium with more oil and varnish to make them more transparent.
